THEME: Like the intricate woven threads of an ancient tapestry, the artistic fabric of Orvieto is rich in color, history, culture and architecture. For this incredible creative journey, two artists collaborate to bring you an experience of decadent art making.
Your week of creating will include portrait drawing and painting, mixed media collage, clay sculpture, encaustic wax and more.
Jeanne-Marie and Ivy will teach both together and individually. Their style and expertise is perfectly in sync and you greatly benefit from their gentle and intuitive approach to art making.
Ivy Newport is a published artist, art instructor and creative guide. Her online collection of artistic workshops have served thousands of students internationally and she prides herself on giving devoted care and support to her student body.
Ivy owned and operated her own interior design company before deciding to leave this fast paced role to be home with her two girls. While at home, Ivy engrossed herself in creative discovery and began to passionately shoot photography and author a blog. These endeavors ultimately led her to the online creative community – which inspired a fruitful and gratifying career as an Art Instructor – teaching both online and in person. Her domestic and international workshops offer rich and expansive creative experiences, with a focus on personal growth and renewal.
Ivy’s artistic message is to guide others to their creativity and nurture those special gifts in each of us. She strongly believes that every soul is creative and finding ways to express that creativity is paramount to joy and healing.
She has been published in several magazines including, Somerset Apprentice, Somerset Digital Studio, and Artful Blogging.
Jeanne-Marie Webb is a Cape Town based Artist. Born in Zimbabwe and now living in Cape Town with her husband and two teenage daughters. Jeanne-Marie has lived all over South Africa throughout her childhood and lived in the UK as a young adult for a short while where she started her working career in the Film Industry at the BBC, Drama.
Jeanne-Marie returned to Cape Town, South Africa in 1996 to get married and start her family and continue her career as a Freelancer in the Film Industry. Always being creative by nature and always dabbling in the arts, it was something she knew she wanted to pursue on a full time basis. In 2010 she made that a reality. She has been actively and daily working creatively ever since. A lover of film photography, painting and sculpture.
In 2017 Jeanne-Marie held her first Creative Portraiture on Recycled TeaBags, Solo Exhibition in Woodstock, Cape Town which was later published in Slow and Premier Magazine and Elle Decorate for her work. She has been selling her art worldwide for the past 5 years and in 2016 started teaching online.
Your week will begin exploring expressive portraiture using some of Ivy and Jeanne-Marie’s favorite sketching techniques using charcoal, graphite and conte. This creative duo will then go on to demonstrate how to then develop portraits with acrylic paints and mixed media.
A luminous exploration of encaustic wax with Ivy is also on the exciting art agenda! This luscious and magical medium is truly a delight and Ivy will teach you many techniques, including creating layered collages and even coating a few of our portraits in a glowing layer of wax!
Meandering through the beautiful Orvieto streets will bring inspiration and sessions of peaceful sketching at sideway cafes or seated in the shadow of the glorious Duomo! So much beauty to behold in the architecture of this enchanting town. Elements of architecture and pattern will be brought into our clay sculpting led by Jeanne-Marie, who’s renown “Soul Bearers” have stolen the heart of so many!
By incorporating paper, paint, clay and wax into this adventure we will truly weave a creative tapestry of artful experiences for all!
You will leave Orvieto full of inspiration and new artistic skills – PLUS personal and soulful artwork that will forever commemorate this life changing adventure!
Mornings will be spent in creative exploration, either in the studio or out around Orvieto. In the afternoon you will experience the culture of Italy. It might be a tour into the Etruscan caves, a cooking class, or a vineyard visit. There will also be plenty of free time to explore Orvieto on your own. You will receive a more detailed itinerary for the week in your final information packet sent before you travel.
A traditional continental breakfast is served each morning in the B&B. Because Italian cuisine is such fun, some meals are not prearranged allowing you the freedom to choose where and what to eat. Recommendations are offered and no one eats alone!
