MEET MELISSA

Melissa is an internationally published artist and author.  Her work has been featured on her own 2011 solo calendar Anything is Possible, published by Trends International as well as her Goddess on the Go affirmation card deck her Anything is Possible divination card deck. She has also owned and operated her own publishing company featuring her artwork since 1990. Melissa is well known for different series of work, such as land and seascapes, expressive portraits, and huge paintings of butterflies.

Melissa two fine art degrees in Painting and received a prestigious Fulbright scholarship to study Painting in Paris which whet her appetite for documenting her travels in paint wherever she journeys.  She has painted the arches of Morocco, the temples of Bali, the Goddess temples in Malta, sacred sites throughout the UK, pyramids in Mexico, coastlines of Costa Rica, Croatia and Hawaii and numerous locations throughout the US.

Melissa has been teaching art classes since 1991 when she was invited to teach at the New York Open Center in New York City.  She has also taught at the Omega Institute, the Barrett Art Center, Adventures in Italy, Georgia O’Keefe’s Ghost Ranch, Ireland, and various other retreat centers that correspond with her travels.  She has maintained a loyal following of private students, some since 1990. She offers a unique combination of technique with a strong intuitive ability to tune into what each student needs in order to help them find their own individual style of expression.

Her favorite way to spend any vacation is by painting wherever she goes.  She works in both oil and watercolor in her studio but in watercolor only when she is on the road.  In her books “Painting Outside the Lines” and “Keys to a Creative Life”  Melissa answers questions that folks ask her about style, technique, inspiration and more.

YOUR TIME WITH MELISSA INCLUDES:

Melissa is excited to return to the colorful, quaint, town of Orvieto to offer you this watercolor painting/journaling retreat.  Inspiration abounds everywhere you look. The old cobbled streets full of centuries old stone arches and architecture and intimate alleyways lead to dramatic views of the rolling hills down below the town. Not only will you be creatively inspired, your palate will enjoy numerous experiences of Italian culinary delights;  the cooking class, the vineyard visit and the scrumptious locally sourced food.

You will have studio time practicing technique, spending a bit of time in meditation, or having fun with some plein air painting.

You will come away with:
Basic watercolor technique- composition, texture, shadows and light
An experience of how meditation can enhance your creations
Ability to transfer your impressions of a place into your journal or watercolor
